Atmos
Art + Creative Direction
Atmos distills the physical landscape into its simplest elements: color, shape, and texture. Using abstract painting techniques, gestural yet intentional placement of pigment evokes vast stretches of land and natural scenery. Horizon lines serve as literal through-lines across the collection, grounding these abstract interpretations of space. Each design in Atmos was hand-painted by Astek’s creative team and developed into repeating murals for the wall.
Created by the in-house design team at Astek, Atmos explores abstraction through the lens of landscape. The collection began with a creative prompt focused on distilling natural environments into their most essential elements of color, shape, and texture, while preserving the emotive qualities of place. Artists were encouraged to work with a range of paint mediums and tools, embracing both spontaneity and restraint to achieve soft gradients, gestural textures, and atmospheric depth.
The horizon line served as a conceptual throughline across the artworks, anchoring each piece and guiding the viewer’s eye. Works were designed with repeatability in mind, ultimately resulting in large-scale, repeating murals that offer layered, meditative surfaces rather than literal scenes.
Original collection moodboard.
This approach draws from the traditions of abstraction in landscape painting. Beginning in the mid-1800s, plein-air techniques shifted focus from accuracy to emotional impression. Influences like Turner, Kandinsky, and Diebenkorn reframed landscape as something felt more than seen. Atmos reflects this lineage, prioritizing mood over realism and inviting a sense of openness and interpretation.
Developed in collaboration with Astek’s senior creative team, including myself as Creative Director, Astek’s Marketing Manager, and Design Manager, this collection was strategically curated to align abstraction with serenity and transformation of the mood of space. I led the creative direction, provided curatorial oversight, and finalized the visual and narrative framework for Atmos, guiding the design team through artistic exploration and curating a cohesive visual language. The result is a collection of repeating murals that evoke a sense of presence, softness, and quiet movement, transforming space through tone and gesture.
