Ukiyo Collection Campaign
A visual narrative crafted with intention.
Ukiyo, meaning “floating world,” is a mural collection designed in-house, at Astek, using the traditional Japanese marbling technique of suminagashi. Each design was handcrafted with ink, water, and paper, then digitally refined into large-scale compositions that feel both fluid and suspended in time. I collaborated closely with Astek’s Design + Media Manager, Rachel Brand, to curate the final collection, refine colorways, name each mural, and guide the development of supporting collateral.
For the print ad campaign, I conceptualized the idea of a figure seemingly suspended and floating midair, echoing the collection’s name and origin. Working with photographer Sharon Kanes, I art-directed the shoot from concept to execution, including model selection, wardrobe direction, and on-set styling. The model, a trained dancer, moved gracefully through space, jumping on a large trampoline, allowing us to capture a series of floating, ethereal poses.
The result was a set of images that embodied the weightlessness and transience of the collection’s aesthetic. And yes, Rachel and I had a little fun on the trampoline too.
Ukiyo is a winner of the HD Award, NYCxDesign Award, and Interior Design Magazine’s Best of Year.
